Italy's Francesco Bagnaia won the opening MotoGP race of 2024, with Brad Binder and Saturday's sprint winner Jorge Martin finishing behind the defending champion in a very exciting race.
Although the race in Qatar was scheduled to start at 20:00 local time, it had to be postponed due to problems with Raul Fernandez. After the race finally got underway, Martin, starting from pole position, held on to the top spot. Martin didn't enjoy the lead for long, however, as Bagnaia, who was racing from fourth place, soon got ahead of him. Binder then got ahead of Maritna as well.
After the fourth lap, the order was as follows: Bagnaia led ahead of Binder, Martin and Marc Marquez, who was making his debut on a Ducati motorcycle.
While Bagnaia continued to lead the remaining laps and took the win. Binder and Martin battled a lot, but in the end it was Binder who was able to enjoy second place.Fourth place went to Marc Marquez, but he didn't have it easy, as newcomer Pedro Acosta also rode ahead of him for a while. However, Acosta fell back and had to settle for ninth in the end.
Enea Bastianini and Alex Marquez completed the top six behind Marc Marquez.
